Passport control

How to travel through passport control at Copenhagen Airport

Who needs to go through passport control?

You need to go through passport control when crossing the Schengen borders and traveling outside the countries in the area. EU regulations help strengthen the external borders and internal security in Denmark and the EU.

29 Schengen member states:
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The same rules apply: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Does that mean I can travel without my passport?

You must always be able to identify yourself to the authorities when traveling in another country. Therefore, you should remember your passport, both when traveling within and outside the Schengen borders.

GOOD TO KNOW

Tips for passport control

  • Always allow extra time when going through passport control.
  • Arrive early, we recommend at least 2 hours before departure if you are traveling within the Schengen area and at least 3 hours before departure if you are traveling outside the Schengen area.
  • Track your flight in the CPH app to receive notifications about any changes in gate or flight schedules.
  • Check the waiting time at passport control in the CPH app or on the screens at the airport.
  • Have your passport ready before entering passport control.
  • Remember that all family members must present their passports separately.

Self-service passport control

In order for you to use the automatic self-service passport control, the following criteria must be met:

1. You must have a so-called electronic passport with a chip. An electronic passport can be recognized by having this symbol on the front page.

2. You must be 18 years or older.

3. You must be either EU, EEA or Swiss citizen.

If the above does not apply to you, use one of the manned passport controls that are located next to the automatic scanners.

Manned passport control

The manned passport controls are divided between "EU, EEA and CH" and "All Passports".

The "EU, EEA and CH" boxes are reserved for nationals of EU and EEA countries and Swiss citizens who can not use the self-service passport control.

Families with children under the age of 18, where everyone has passports from a European country, should use the "EU, EEA & CH" queue.

The "All Passports" stands can be used by all nationalities. They will primarily be used by citizens from non-EU countries. If you have a passport from a European country but are accompanied by people who have a non-EU passport, you can use the "All Passports" queue together.

Where is the passport control?

You will encounter passport control at two locations in Copenhagen Airport after passing through the security check.

The main passport control is located near gates C, but there is also a passport control area near gates E.
